Eileen Aspinall
Trained as a nurse, Eileen Aspinall's decision to go into hospice work was largely the result of her dissatisfaction with the health service which she felt did not give patients the care they deserved. However, it was the death of one of her friends at the Hospice itself that led her to write to St Gemma's to see if there were any jobs available. In 1986 she left the local hospital where she was working as a nurse and took up a post as staff nurse at the Hospice. She then became a ward manager before taking up the newly created post of Specialist Practitioner in Palliative Care in November 1999. Eileen talks about her various roles in the Hospice and the changing way in which patients have been cared for. She also discusses the main problems and changes that have taken place and the role of the Sisters of the Cross and Passion in St Gemma's.
