Joan Brown
Joan Brown has been involved with Foyle Hospice, Derry, since 1989. Prior to that she had been a housewife for 12 years. She was initially employed through the ACE Scheme and her first role was office duties. After that Joan became increasingly involved in fundraising activities, culminating in her appointment as Fundraising Co-ordinator in 1998 after its previous occupant was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Joan talks about the role of the fundraising department and her own work as Fundraising Co-ordinator. She also discusses the main problems and challenges she has faced; the principle changes that have occurred; the reaction of the local community to the presence of the Hospice and their support in fundraising. She ends by talking briefly about the relationship between Foyle Hospice and the other Hospices in the Province what she feels the future holds for the Hospice.
