Jim Calvert
Jim Calvert spent the first 25 to 30 years of his life working in industry. After he was made redundant in the early 1990’s Jim applied for the post of Finance Officer at the Marie Curie Centre, Belfast. He begins by talking about his role when he first joined and how it has changed over the years. He also discusses the financial organisation of the Centre, particularly sources of income and the relationship with Marie Curie Head Office. He then talks about the main problems and challenges he has encountered; the principle changes that have occurred; their relationship with the other hospices in the Province and the other Marie Curie Centres in the rest of the UK; the impact of the religious and political situation in Northern Ireland; and the geographical separation of Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK. He ends by talking about what he feels the future holds for the Centre in Belfast.
