Sister Agnes Consiglio
Born in 1909, Sister Agnes Consiglio was first sent by the Sisters of Charity to St Patrick's Hospital in Cork in 1943, and was collected from the station by a two nuns on a donkey and cart. Sister Agnes Consiglio still lives at the adjoining convent, and has witnessed first hand the changing patient population from when St Patrick's Hospital was primarily 'for incurables' (especially TB) to the development of modern hospice facilities at Marymount Hospice within the Hospital. The interview especially focuses on nursing practice, medical cover and early pain relief, the involvement of families, and the new chapel.
