| Bishop Edward Daly |
Bishop Edward Daly has worked as a Catholic priest in Derry since 1962. His friendship with Dr Tom McGinley began around the
same time and he was invited by the latter to attend the first public meeting regarding the establishment of a hospice in
Derry. After suffering a stroke in 1993 Bishop Daly had to retire as Bishop and so he decided to offer his services as chaplain
to Foyle Hospice. In the interview he talks about his role as chaplain; multi-disciplinary input within the Hospice and his
relationship with the patients. He also discusses the main problems and challenges he has faced; the principle changes that
have occurred; the impact of the religious and political situation in Northern Ireland; public perceptions of the Hospice;
the geographical separation of Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK; and their relationship with the other Hospices in
the Province. He ends by talking about what he feels the future holds for Foyle Hospice.
