Lyn Forbes
Born in 1948 in Sheffield, Lyn Forbes' family moved around during her childhood. Her career spans a variety of administrative/management positions within different organisations including National Opinion Polls, Derby Aviation, British Midland Airways, and the Young Farmers' Association, as well as a spell running a tea room/shop/post office as a family business. Lyn Forbes moved to Scotland in 1966, and subsequently even further North, to the Highlands. Here, the Highland Hospice Group had begun planning for a hospice to cover the needs of the Highlands' scattered population. Lyn Forbes was employed as Administrative Manager in 1986 to help with fund raising and planning services, and in 1991 became General Manager. As well as the development of staff and services at the hospice, the interview also discusses the 50:50 funding introduced in to Scottish hospices in 1989, and the implications of this for the autonomy of independent hospices.
