Hannah Healy
One of the first two home care nurses to be employed, Hannah has been involved with Foyle Hospice since 1985. Prior to that she worked as a district nurse. Before commencing the job she completed the Care of the Dying Course at St Mary's Hospice, Birmingham, and then went to work for two weeks at St Joseph's Hospice, Hackney, in order to obtain some experience in hospice care. Hannah talks about how the home care service was set up and run; her own role as a home care nurse; and her relationship with the patients. She also discusses the main problems and challenges she has faced; the principle changes that have occurred; cross-border co-operation; the impact of the religious and political situation in Northern Ireland; public perceptions of the Hospice; the geographical separation of Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK; and their relationship with the other Hospices in the Province. She ends by talking briefly about what she feels the future holds for Foyle Hospice.
