| Sister Frances Rose O'Flynn |
Born in the city of Derry, Sister Frances Rose OFlynn undertook her general nurse training at St Vincents Hospital in Dublin
in the 1950s, and then nurse tutor training at Edinburgh, before working at the Sisters of Charity Head House for twelve years
in an administrative capacity. In 1983 Sister Frances Rose OFlynn took over from Sister Ignatius Phelan as Superior and Matron
of Our Ladys Hospice in Harolds Cross, Dublin. Palliative care and multidisciplinary working were already established at
the hospice, but Sister Frances Rose OFlynn developed this area through a new palliative care building (1993) incorporating
enough space to include day care and home care facilities. As well as the development of day and home care, the interview
also discusses spiritual care, the hospices relationship with the people of Dublin, relations between lay staff and the Sisters,
and the Sisters of Charitys Mission Effectiveness Programme (1995).
